The management of water losses is an essential tool for optimizing the functioning of the aqueduct network. The procedures used in this area are based:

Smart systems for measuring flow rates and pressures offer considerable support for the management of the aforementioned elements and facilitate the creation of water districts, as they allow information on the status of a node or network to be obtained and to intervene quickly if necessary.

Despite their usefulness, however, the diffusion of such systems is hindered by the high cost and complexity of the installation and maintenance required. In aqueduct districts with reduced user density and limited extension, the use of remote monitoring systems is more effective as long as they are economically sustainable, simple, self-powered and above all equipped with "intelligence" to detect a flaw and alert promptly or preventively.

An experiment in this sense was carried out by Piave Servizi S.r.l. during the years 2015 and 2016.
