Smart Metering for the management of water networks

LoRaWAN and NB-IoT INNOVATIVE AQUEDUCT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

In the urban context, the condition of Italian aqueducts, stressed by 30/50 years of extreme rainfall events and droughts, have become increasingly critical in recent years.
This scenario has increased the need to identify new solutions.The improvement and modernization of the Integrated Water Service is a fundamental step for effective water planning and management. The solution is adopting remote reading and remote control systems. The monitoring of water resources, with easy and innovative smart metering systems, will allow us to resolve the approach from a daily emergency with flat-rate accounting to exact consumption estimates.

The advantages ofs Smart meteringsystems are mainly the reduction readings costs (which do not require an operator on site, like the traditional walk-by system), the opportunity to carry out checks often and independently and the possibility to manage the contract automatically and remotely.

The solutions proposed by MiDo Srl use LoRa and NB-IoT technologies. LoRaWan is an open, interoperable and highly scalable network. The NB-IoT network, often referred to as LTE M2, offers indisputable advantages to companies that embrace strategic paths linked to the Internet of Things.

LoRaWAN: CONTROL of urban WATER NETWORKS ​

With the growth of city infrastructure, the need has arisen to install sensors kilometers away from the gateway. The technologies suitable to satisfy this need are those based on cellular technology, or on the use of low power networks, in particular LoRaWAN (Low Power Wide Area Network).

LoRaWAN is the optimal solution for remote reading and monitoring of urban water networks. With LoRa it is possible to create a low-power, wide-area, free, open and interoperable network. Any LoRaWAN sensor or device can be connected to the same network and after installation, does not require communication fees. LoRaWAN technology is the optimal solution to control aqueduct nodes with the application of the Internet of Things (IoT).

We at MiDo have created two products based on this technology: MiDoMet LoRa Pulse and MiDoMet LoRa Analog. Devices ready for use that can transmit low-frequency data between sensors up to 15km. Once installed, they do not require communication fees as occurs with proprietary low-power networks, or with devices equipped with 2G, 3G or LTE modems.

MiDoMet Lora Pulse is an innovative radio module for remote reading of water, gas, electricity and heat meters, interoperable with any long-range, low-consumption LoraWan network.
MiDoMet Lora Analog is the extended version of the MiDoMet LoRa Pulse which, in addition to remote reading of meters or digital inputs, can be connected to pressure transmitters, level or analog sensors.(M

THE BEST of INTERNET OF THINGS for water networks

Narrowband Internet of Things is a Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) radio technology standard, developed by 3GPP to enable communication for a wide range of devices and services.

NB-IoT uses a subset of the LTE standard, with a bandwidth of 200 kHz and uses OFDM modulation for data download communication and SC-FDMA for data sending communications.

We at MiDo use this technology for MiDoMet NBIoT Pulse. A low-power device that enables the economical and simple development of Internet of Things applications. The device is supplied complete with connectivity for the entire duration of the service.

A SIMPLE, EASY AND FAST SYSTEM

The MiDoMet Soft systems allow you to easily and immediately manage data coming from the network nodes for statistics and consumption analyses. The platform is customizable and allows you to create ad-hoc analyses, selecting one or more nodes in the network. It has a large configuration section for alarms and notifications.
